Youth Advocate
Job Description- Provides oversight and guidance to at-risk juvenile clients in a community-based program through direct contact with the client and family multiple times per week in various localities throughout Philadelphia.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Makes the required number of contacts with assigned clients via phone and/or face-to-face visits to the client's home, school and place of employment to provide supervision and guidance.Documents all contacts and submits on a timely basis.Documents and makes required contacts for all critical incidents and outside contacts.Counsels client and family members to make them aware of or refer them to available education programs, therapy, and other community resources when appropriate.Informs client and parent/guardian of program rules and possible consequences for violation. Monitors and enforces rule compliance.Assists with transportation, group presentation and community service supervision.Conducts daily curfew checks via home visits and telephone contact.Performs all aspects of client file management, including the timely documentation of intake, service delivery and discharge of assigned clients.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
1. Maintains communication and working relationship with probation officers and the court when appropriate.
2. Attends court hearings when required.
3. Follows all required safety protocols while on the job.
4. Perform other duties similar to the above as the need may arise.
QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS
At least 21 years old with a high School diploma or one year of college in the field of criminal justice, criminology, social work, sociology, psychology, counseling, or related field and one year of experience working with youth. Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet applications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must. An acceptable driving record and reliable, insured transportation is required.
